More Good News!

In the last post I mentioned Jenny going up to full-time at work, and getting a better schedule. Well yesterday she also had her yearly Performance Evaluation, which went really well and garnered her a raise as well!

She's also got a lot of saved up vacation time she needs to use before the end of the year, so she'll be taking a week and half or so off, starting October 1st. No real plans, so it'll probably be a "stay-cation", but she's still looking forward to it.

So, about that trip we took....

Well, I guess I never really did a proper Emerald City Comic Convention wrap up post from our trip earlier this month. So, if you're really bored and want to read the day by day write up, I posted it up on my LiveJournal:

But all in all it was a fun trip. We didn't spend near as much time at the Comic-Con as we expected or planned, but ended up spending the time with friends, actually relaxing instead. Maybe next year we'll try to be more organized with our convention plans (but honestly, we say that every year...).

It was great seeing everybody while we were there - Extra thanks to Shane and Rita for putting us up and putting up with us, and to Lucky and Erin for some awesomely good food and fun times.

Back Home

We got back from our trip to Seattle on Monday evening. It was a whole mess of fun - lots of running around, seeing people, being stuck in traffic. We spent one day at the convention and one day at the zoo, took a bunch of pictures, and ate out a lot.

I should be posting up pictures, as soon as we've got them in some semblance of order. At the same time, I'm trying to go through older pictures (from the last couple of years or so) and find some to post up on the Flickr account as well (we've got it, might as well use it for more than just wedding pictures). Too many pictures....

Anyway - we're home, safe and sound. The drive was long, but OK. We're mostly just exhausted, but I picked up some sort of cold/flu thing during the trip and have been knocked out by that the last couple of days. Fun.

Vacation Time!

Just a quick update - we'll be leaving tomorrow to head over to Seattle for the weekend. We'll be spending most of Saturday and Sunday at the Emerald City Comic-Con, getting in touch with our inner geeks. The rest of the time will hopefully be just relaxing and catching up with friends. We should be able to check our e-mail where we're staying, but we'll have our cel phone if anyone needs to get ahold of us.

Day Three In Fairbanks

On Sunday we went to Alaska Land to see if anything was different, and to go into the Air Museum there, which niether of us had been in in many, many years. It was cool. Lots of neat planes and helicopters, pieces of wrecks, and old clothes and other articles. Yes, I was allowed to sit in that helicopter, and put that helmet on. :) It was the only thing there that was touchable. In the Native Village, the gift shop that no one had ever really liked has been turned into a little museum. Also, the path into the "village" has been moved so that you have to go through the museum to get to the path, instead of walking by the antler sculpture. Almost all of the buildings have been taken down for some reason, and the "path" sort of petered out to nothing instead of leading near the back exit, which no longer exists. So, that was disapointing. I got the impression that the plays that occasionaly were held there no longer are. On the other hand, the old "train station" has been shut down and a nice new one has been built next to it. I think it might have had a gift shop or a itty bitty museum, but I didn't go over there. We looked through another museum, this one in the "town" area, while it rained cats and dogs outside. We bypassed most of the shops, but stopped in one and I ended up buying a pretty green amber ring. They had regular yellow amber, green, and a dark red amber too. I had had no idea that amber came in different colors. Apparently the dark red is the rarest. But I liked the green the best. And the rings were very reasonably priced. While I had been in the helicopter, Alex had called and asked if we'd go to see the Simpson's Movie with him and Ellie.

After we left Alaska Land, we went to the Fair. It looked about the same as it usually does. We dropped by a booth that's run by a friend of Peter's, but she was off having lunch, so we went to look at the Forestry booth and go to the art and photography building near it. There wasn't anyone I knew at the Forestry booth, but the booth itself was still in good condition. I sort of helped build it, and my sister and I would sometimes go to the fair with Dad when it was his turn to man the booth, so it holds good memories for me. At the art exhibit, there were some really great pieces. A little girl had entered several paintings and drawings, Happy Dong, I swear that's her name, and she was very talented. Then we went back to Peter's friend, Ellen's booth and found her there. They talked for quite a while and I looked at the artistic stationary and other cool things that she was selling, and joined in the conversation a little too. Somewhere in there we ate some fair food, and it was delicious.

Then, we headed to the movies. Well, we might have stopped back by Josh's place to rest or something, but I don't remember. We got to the theater before Alex and Ellie, and briefly saw Rob again as he was leaving. I think he saw Harry Potter, but I could be completley wrong. The Simpsons Movie was awesome! It was so funny, I couldn't even believe it. At one point, one guy threw binoculars at the dome over the town in frustration and they unexpectedly bounced back and hit him in the head. I actually shrieked out loud in laughter, which embarassed me a little, but it didn't stop me from continuing to enjoy the movie. After the movie, we talked outside for a while, Alex had just quit his job that weekend and the story was very funny. We didn't end up going to Denny's though, so maybe Ellie had to work the next morning or something. Then back to Josh's to sleep. It was really hot in Josh's condo, and the fan was barely helping, but it wasn't too bad while it was raining outside. Once it started getting warmer out though, it was a sauna!

Day Two In Fairbanks

In the morning, we used our new Tracfone to call just about everyone to let them know we were in town and that we had a week to see them. Chris and Sabrina invited us to lunch and Peter and I suggested Food Factory. We had missed it so much! Alex called us to also ask us to go to lunch with him and Ellie, but we had to put it off for another day as we had just made plans. Peter and I ordered our favorite food, but were having so much fun talking and catching up, we forgot to order the brocolli chedder poppers. :( Mmmm, poppers. Chris, Peter and I really wanted to see Bourne Ultimatum, so we decided to go that evening, and that Chris would get Darrin to join us. Then Peter and I drove over to Fishtopia to see Rob. Peter knows Rob from when they were in the same dorm together at UAF. And I know Rob from fencing class, he was one of the TAs. We talked for several hours about his business, about people we all know, and other stuff. Then after he closed shop for the night, we followed him to his new beautiful house and got the tour. His house is made from thick concrete, and we made lots of jokes about how defensible it would be from a zombie invasion. Then we headed back into town to get to the movies. Sabrina didn't want to see the Bourne movie, so she didn't go, but I thought it was very good. A little too much "action camera" even when they were just standing and talking. Afterwards, Peter and I were hungry, so we drove over to Dennys for a bite. While we were waiting for our food, I overheard our waiter tell someone at a different table that his biological mother was married to James Brown. He said something after that that I didn't hear, so I have no idea if he meant the singer or not, but I thought it was interesting. Then, after food, it was back to Josh's place to sleep.

Day One In Fairbanks

Here we are at the family BBQ at Chris and Sarah's house. We ate some good food, then attempted to watch West Side Story, but after watching a little of it, it was voted down and we watched Cry Baby instead, which was very silly. Then we headed back to the bachelor pad. Peter and I drove around for a while in Sue's car, which she so nicely let us borrow while we were there. We stopped by Good Karma, but they were already closed, and we drove by where Revolution had been. It was empty again, but the little strip mall it was in was otherwise filled up. The bright colored slat wall that Peter and Chris had put up was still there, which I thought was funny. We drove down the Johansen and saw all the new stuff that's sprung up there. Would've been nice if all those stores had been there when I grew up on that side of town, but whatever. ;) Then we dropped by West Freddies but surprisingly didn't see anyone we know. Then back to the bachelor pad to sleep.

Back Home....

Jenny and I got back from Fairbanks last night around midnight. It was a lot of fun - got to see a whole lot of folks we haven't seen in ages and catch up with people (which is a lot more fun in person than over the phone or online). Checked out what had changed in Fbx (not much), spent a lot of time at the Fair, ate out a lot and generally enjoyed our time off (since I haven't had anything that that I'd really call a "vacation" since I was a teenager).

We took a bunch of photos while we were there, and once we've got them all organized we'll start posting them up and do a more thorough blog/analysis. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who made time to hang out with us while we there (and fed us :) ). And we'll hopefully get to see the rest of y'all the next time we come to visit. If anybody finds themselves passing through Spokane, feel free to hit us up and we'll try our darnedest to find the time to get together.

North! To Alaska!

The FJ Cruiser is now in my name and has new Washington plates. Even though Mom had signed over the cruiser, when I went to the Department of Licensing, they said they couldn't (wouldn't) proceed until I had a note from my mother stating that she gifted the car to me. Yes, you heard me, a note... from my mother... saying it was ok to put the cruiser in my name. So dumb. So I drove to CDA and got the note, which Mom tried to keep the sarcasam down as she wrote it. Then after a short visit so that I wouldn't waste the trip, I drove back to the DOL and they read the note, and finished the paperwork, took my check and handed over the new plates. What a pain. Peter wasn't impressed with the DOL when I told him, and he said that it was a good thing he wasn't there. I agree, because he might have said something that would have delayed me getting the cruiser in my name!

I finished the seventh Harry Potter book on Wednesday the 25th around 1AM. It was really good.

I've finished the laundry and have been packing for the trip. Looks like all the extra cameras from the wedding will have to go on our carry on, as the undeveloped film won't survive the x-rays. We're probably not going to take much, since we're going up there to visit with whomever has time, take lots of pictures and just relax. The only things we have planned so far, that I remember, is a BBQ when we first get in tomorrow with the extended family :), Sunday morning church to meet people there, and a Cake concert with friends on Friday the 10th at the Blue Loon. I wonder if the Loon is any different then the last time I saw it years ago? Doubt it.

Peter and I picked up a Tracfone to use while we're up there, so we should be easy to get a hold of. If you want the number for it, we'll either send out an e-mail, or if you have our home phone number, call that and if I'm home I'll pick up or call you back with the number. Not that it's likely that any random person is going to find the number if I post it here and call it, but I'm not going to take that chance.

Can't wait to get back up there! It might be rainy when we get there, but we chose fair season, we knew what we were getting into. And at least it's not -40F!

Dishes?

So, went over to CDA on the 4th. I got into my dress and I thought I'd have to stand there for quite some time while Mom put pins in, but she only needed to measure how much she was going to hem it, then helped me out of the dress.

Sears over there was open, but it didn't do us any good, since it was a tiny store compared to the 2 over here, so they didn't carry dishes at all. Also, we wandered around that store looking at kitchen stuff and then at clothes, and not one of the many employees there asked us if we were looking for anything or needed help. Coupled with the apathy from the 2 girls in both Washington stores, it was not a good week for customer service. So, I got a pair of jean shorts, and then we left the Silver Lake Mall, since about 1/2 it's stores were closing, and none of the other stores were of interest to us. So, looks like we'll need to order the dishes ourselves from online, and hope they get here unbroken. Peter and I also dropped by Borders, as usual, and said hi to our friends there and checked out their shiny new cafe (SBC).

Dropped back by the folk's place and helped Dad move his new rocksaw and move a couple related things, and also checked out their new garage doors, very nice. Then Dad had Peter and I pick out our flight times and plane seats and payed for our tickets/used some of his miles. So, now we need to finish the last details of the wedding, get married, change my name, possibly go for a weekend camping trip with a couple friends of ours, then pack and head up to Alaska for a week. Whoo! Busy, busy, busy.

Recovering

We've been back from our mini-vacation for a few days now, and we're still just now getting back on our feet. Between Jenny being sick, then me being sick, then going away for 4 days and then her being sick again, we've just been kinda wiped out for the past few weeks. The house is in shambles (atleast in my opinion - in reality it still looks pretty nice), since I haven't had the time and/or energy to clean and we've been too tired or busy to do much other than just go to work and watch TV. That should be changing soon, though, as Jenny finally got fed up with Michaels and put in her 2 week notice today. She's through putting up with horrible schedules, incompetent supervisors and a revolving door of coworkers. She's planning on getting a new job, but she's going to enjoy her respite as well. The funny thing is that when she took this job, it was originally supposed to be the "little part time job on the side" that she took to bring in a little extra money while we got back on our feet after moving. She always had planned on quitting as soon as something better came along, but nothing ever did...

I would still like a better/different job, but I'm learning to live with this, atleast for the moment. Brian is going to be leaving soon (end of June), so while I won't be getting any sort of promotion, I am going to finally be learning some new things so I can take over some of his extra tasks when he's gone. Atleast it's something to do instead of answering the phones.

So, our "vacation" was amazingly fun - we got to see our friends Shane and Rita (who we really appreciate letting us stay at their apartment) as well as my brother Dave (who took us out to dinner at the Pyramid Alehouse); we spent both days at the Emerald City Comic Con, where we got to see a bunch of our favorite artists and writers, bought some cool stuff and generally had a whole lot of geeky fun; and we even got to go to the zoo! Shane and Rita's apartment was just a couple of blocks from the Woodland Park Zoo, so we spent the day on Monday walking around there until closing time. This pushed back when we eventually started the drive back, but it was totally worth it. Here's a group picture of the happily family (Shane, Rita and Roscoe):

I'd hazard to say that our overall Con experience this year was much better than last year, although we didn't do much more in the way of planning and we got there late in the afternoon both days.... I'm thinking that we'll attempt to hit the show early in the morning atleast the first day next year, mainly so we can get at the top of artists' sketch lists before they fill up (as they inevitably do). As it is, I ended up only getting one sketch this year, but it was from the one person I wanted to meet more than any other: David Mack! He produces the most beautiful painted and multimedia work for his books; you can see some examples of his art on his website: Davidmack.net. I do have to say that he is perhaps the absolute nicest professional I've ever seen. He's smiling all the time, wants to talk to everyone there, and goes out of his way to make sure everyone who comes by his table walks away with a good experience. I've also seen this sentiment shared by other folks on-line, so it can't just be my blind fan-boy view of things. Here's a pic Jenny took of myself and the good Mr. Mack:

It's definately not one of the biggest Cons, but it's a decent size show. It's also mostly still just about comics, as opposed to the big Cons in L.A. or New York which are more multimedia spectacles now. Spokane is even trying to get a convention started here now. It's not going to be much this year, but I'm planning on going to support them, and I figure it'll be a good place to meet other artists and fans from the area. In other trip news, while we were originally thinking of heading back to Alaska in June to see peoples and go to Jenny's 10 year reunion, she's since decided that she really doesn't care that much about the reunion, and we'd both rather go back to visit later (say, August), which we may still do. Especially if we'll be living on one income for a little bit while Jenny is jobless, we'll definately want to save our money where we can.

Catching Up....

We've both been fairly sick, off an on, for a while now. Jenny had a sinus infection for a couple of weeks that'd been keeping her down, and she really didn't have a way to take time off to recover. Realistically, she could, or atleast she should, but the corporate mess that is Michaels can't keep enough capable people in the framing department to cover any loss of hours so she ended up going into work anyway.

I've had a little bit of a cold that won't go away, even with copious amounts of vitamin supplements, but I finally was feeling really good at the end of last week. This, of course, was a now obvious precursor to me getting completely bowled over by this horrible sinus/stomach flu thing that's knocked me out for the last few days. It couldn't have picked a less desirable time to hit, as we're counting down the days till our weekend mini-vacation in Seattle for the Emerald City Comic-Con.

Jenny was able to get the time off she had requested (which was amazing in it's own right), so we'll be leaving sometime during the day on Friday and coming back on Monday, probably later in the evening. We did this trip this time last year, but without the extra buffer days for travel, so we didn't leave until Friday evening and most of the journey was in the dark. Atleast we'll be able to drive over during the day this time, actually see where we're going and enjoy the sights, and maybe not while driving directly into the sun the whole way, if we leave early enough. Our friends Shane and Rita have offered to put us up for the weekend, so we'll get to see them and have all sorts of geeky fun at the convention. Hopefully we'll get some more sketches, meet some cool creators, and find some cheap comics to fill out our collections.

I really hate having to call in sick, but I didn't have much of a choice the past few days. I woke up this morning and thought I'd be going back into work, but after I got up and started moving around I knew that'd be a bad idea.... As much as I'd like to have some sort of medical benefits, atleast I have a job that lets me take sick days off with basically no questions asked. I'm still looking for a new job, but I'm not holding out too much hope of finding a better paying job (that I'm qualified for) in the classifieds. I'm also looking online, but I think if that "perfect job" is out there, I'm going to have to know the right person and be in the right place at the right time.

Our friend Eric let me in on a job opening at his firm for a file clerk, which I probably had a pretty good chance of getting, but ended up opting not applying for. As much as I'd really like to find a new job, this position wouldn't have been any closer to something that interests me and would require learning a whole new world of technical jargon and probably would've required a lot more selective and expensive wardrobe (that can't be covered by a labcoat). It would have come with some benefits, but also paid less, and there wasn't the same guaranteed schedule that I currently have.

Besides, I know that if I had taken the job, I would have ended up quitting as soon as I found something better, and I wouldn't want to leave Eric in a lurch like that. I guess that as much as I complain about my current job, it's not really that bad, all things considered. But it's definately not what I want to be doing long term (obviously), so I really need to buckle down and start working on my art and writing if I want to get out of the 8-5 grind.

Still no word yet on Jenny's possible new job prospect. She hasn't heard anything from the other frame shop, although she does know she's getting sick of working for Michaels. They've got a revolving door of employees, and it seems the frame shop is the most difficult to keep staffed. Her ex-manager left (for the frame shop she wants to work at), and they got a replacement who lasted for 3 days before walking out and taking a better paying job at a completely different company. His replacement is way too young and has no management experience. I'm sure they'd like to promote Jenny, but there's no way she would ever take it (and her superiors know this).

My hopes for a clean break from the IRS were shattered when I received yet another statement in the mail this month, for a completely different amount (a little over a $100 this time). I'm through with dealing with them by phone. I know I need to just go into the local office with my checkbook and ask them "how much do you want?" At this point I'm willing to give them more than they're owed (which, if they never find that last check, I already have), just to be done with the whole situation. The problem is when I'll actually be able to get to the IRS office, as I'm at work from 8-5, Monday though Friday.

Well, that just about brings us up to speed with all the basic going-ons....

Work, Work, Work

I can't believe it's already February. Jenny and I have both been at our jobs for a year now, and it's really wearing on us. I've got my one week paid vacation coming up, assuming I'm still working there to use it....

I applied for a very cool job I saw advertised in the paper recently - it's an office manager position with the Spokane Art School down town. It'd probably mean a small drop in pay, but it'd still be a M-F 9-5 schedule, and it'd mean be surrounded by artists (students and teachers) and the possibility of networking. The job closed on Friday, so hopefully I'll hear from them. Soon.

Jenny's also put in for another job - another framing position, but this one's at an actual custom frame shop, so she won't have to deal with all the Michael's corporate retail mess. It would also come with a better schedule and better pay, so if we both got these jobs, the pay would about even out and we'd both be a lot happier.

I asked about the garage situation when I paid our rent on Saturday, but the secretary didn't have anything new to tell me. They're apparently still working on it, but too many other things keep coming up and distracting them. So, by the time we actually have a garage, it'll be just in time for us to move out. Yay.

As for the vacation time I mentioned earlier - the Emerald City Comic Con is coming up, so if I'm still with NWAC, I might use it for that. Maybe we'll try to visit some of our friends over there we haven't seen in a while (I'm looking at you, Eric!). Otherwise, Jenny's 10 year class reunion is coming up this year, and she's been in contact with some of her ex-classmates regarding the whole thing. They're thinking sometime in June, so we may fly back for that - we've been wanting to visit Fairbanks (during the summer), and I missed my 10 year reunion (happened right after we left).

Pictures Of Leavenworth

Here are some of the pictures of Leavenworth. It is such a cute place. One of my co-workers said that we should go in the winter. It snows quite a bit up there, and it only enhances the beauty. We saw a postcard of it during winter, and it did look very pretty. The last picture here is of a restaurant named Gustav's. I highly recomend eating there if you go to Leavenworth. 5 of the other pictures are of the shops and hotels in the Bavarian village. And the other is pointing North, looking at the begining of the Cascades coming from the East. That's the direction we went to go up to Heather Creek, which is just under (South) of Lake Wenatchee. I think.

Weekend Expedition

We had a rather awesome weekend for a change - we went with Jenny's dad and aunt Joan up to Leavenworth, and then hiked to Heather Creek to go garnet hunting. Leavenworth is a very cool touristy type place made up to look like a German town, with lots of little shops and themed restuarants (even the McDonalds looks "Bavarian", although I forgot to take a picture of it).

They picked us up from our apartment around 8am Saturday morning, and we got up to Leavenworth around 12:30-1:00 or so. We also stopped at Grand Coulee on the way to see the Dry Falls, and took some pictures.

After finding a room at the Linderhof Inn, and eating lunch at a place called Gustavs, we drove for another hour or so up to the trailhead and walked quite a ways (not sure how far) till we found a spot where we could get down to the water. Jenny's dad spent quite a while walking up and down the creek, looking for a spot to look for garnets, while Jenny and I took pictures of the area. He eventually found a good spot and came back with a decent assortment of garnets of various sizes.

We got back home around 8:00, cleaned ourselves up, and went to dinner at a restuarant called Kristall's. I'm not sure when we finally turned in, but we were all quite exhausted from the long day of hiking and climbing around the rocks.

We checked out of the hotel the next morning around 10:00 and spent the next 2 hours checking out the shops in town. We didn't buy much (not having much in the way of disposable income), but we did pick up a couple of souvenirs and Jenny bought some surprisingly reasonably priced clothes.

We left a little after Noon, and got back home around 4:00, where we promptly collapsed after making it inside the apartment. All in all, it was a whole lot of fun, and a well deserved vacation for the two of us. Jenny's dad is already talking about taking another weekend trip up to Heather Creek relatively soon, and I for one would love to spend a lot more time walking around Leavenworth, so hopefully that will happen sometime soon.

Con-tinued

It's Tuesday, and I'm still riding the high from the weekend and how much fun being at the convention was. I've started looking on-line to try and find other cons around the northwest, so we won't have to wait a year for the next one. Atleast now we know more than one person in Portland, and I know there's a convention there every year.

We'll definately be a lot more organized next time:

• Jenny had a real want list for her comics, but all I had was my giant (hand written) inventory list. I need to enter all of that on the computer, and also make up a short list of the books I really want to find (and how much I'll spend).
• A lot of folks there had dedicated sketch books for getting artwork from pros, usually with a theme. I saw collections of Stargirl, Hobgoblin, Captain Jack Sparrow and even the Smurfs (the Scott Morse Smurf painting was awesome). My plan is to start one of my own, collecting different interpretations of... Daredevil (wow, that was really a surprise). It shall be my Sketch Book Without Fear.... :)
• We also needed to be a lot more organized with where we were going and when. We just kind of wandered around for a while, and really had no idea where to start. We should have gone through the list and the map first, and figured out a plan of attack for sketches and autographs.

Weekend Update

Well, we made it back from the Emerald City Comic Con and it was a blast! We spent a lot of time hanging out with my brother, and went up to the waterfront for lunch on Saturday with Shane and Rita. Saturday night we met up with Eric at an Irish pub up in the University district called Finn MacCool's, and then hung out with him for a while at the convention Sunday morning.

The convention was awesome, and there were even more big name artists and writers there than I was expecting. We definately weren't near as organized as we could have been for this trip, but we learned a lot about planning for a convention, and we'll be able to apply that next year (or hopefully sooner, if we can get to some other con in the next year).

Unfortunately the digital camera wasn't cooperating, so we don't have any photos to share from the trip. I did get a couple of sketches while we were there, and a few autographs, so maybe I'll scan those and throw 'em up here. I got to meet Ryan (Uncle Wya) Ottley, who draws Invincible, and got a super-cool Atom Eve sketch done by him. I also got a sketch from Keith Knight, who draws the syndicated strip The K Chronicles, and is also one half of the rap group The Marginal Prophets. I didn't know he was going to be there, or I would have brought the books by him that I own to get signed, but I did pick up their second CD while I was there.

We both found a few back issues that were on our "want lists", for pretty cheap, and we kept our spending down to decent amount. A lot of that is thanks to my brother letting us stay with him for the weekend, so we didn't have to worry about finding or paying for a motel, and he also drove us around quite a bit. This was the short and sweet version of the Con re-cap; I'm sure we'll post more little bits and pieces as we remember them.

Spending time at the con and being around all of these creators has really kickstarted my desire to get myself in gear and work on my art. It was my own fault I didn't have a current portfolio to show or some mini-comics to distribute this year, and that's something I've got to remedy. For now, though, it's getting late and I need to eat something before we get to bed so I can go back to work tomorrow morning at 8am. But it's only a matter of time until I'll be able to make my own hours and work when I want on what I want. And the more I believe that, the more likely (and the faster) it will happen....

Vacation Time

We'll be gone for the next couple of days, as we're spending the weekend in Seattle, visiting my brother and some of our friends and attending the Emerald City Comic Con. The plan is to hit the road first thing after I get off work at 5, and get over there late tonight (10-11). We'll probably be going to the Con both days in the morning, and spend the rest of the time wandering around downtown and hanging out with our friends.

Hopefully on Monday we'll have some pictures to post and something interesting to talk about. :) We also hope to have some signed comics, some awesome sketches and some more back issues and other cool swag.
